The eye brightener pencils are a part of the regular makeup routine for most people. However, most of them complain that they do not get the looks they expected out of the pencil.
Even we were frustrated that the pencil did not offer us the looks we wanted. That is where we learned that we really do not know how to use eye brightener pencil.
So, we got into digging. We interviewed professional makeup artists and learned how to exactly use one of these.
Trust us; we were pretty surprised by the way the makeup artist showed us. The process is so simple and straightforward and way different than the one that we were following.
And we are going to share that exact process with you here in this article. So, keep on reading!
How To Use An Eye Brightener Pencil?
As we mentioned above, the process we learned was pretty simple. In fact, we are going to make it simpler by offering you an easy-to-follow step-by-step guide in this segment.
Step 1: Keep the Pencil in the Freezer
When you first purchase the pencil, it might not be sharpened to the right amount. It might even have dull looks to it in the beginning.
To get the optimal results, you will need to prepare it accordingly. And the first thing you would need to do is to keep the pencil in the freezer.
You might be wondering why we are recommending you keep a pencil in the freezer. Well, by doing so, you will avoid the middle portion getting crumbly when you sharpen the tip. Ten to fifteen minutes should be enough but if your pencil does not harden during that period, keep it inside the freezer for at least half an hour.
Step 2: Dip a Q Tip into Rubbing Alcohol
Next, get yourself a bottle of rubbing alcohol and a q tip. A cotton swab will also be adequate for this step. Dip the cotton swab or q tip into the rubbing alcohol. We are aiming to disinfect the sharpener with this cotton swab.
Stick the wet end inside the sharpener and gently swab. Use the other end and dip it into the alcohol again.
With the other end, clean the upper portion of the blades. After this, the sharpener will be thoroughly disinfected, and your eyes will have fewer chances of getting attacked with bacteria.
Step 3: Sharpen the Eye Brightener Pencil
Take the pencil out of the freezer. If you have waited for an adequate amount of time, you will feel it has hardened already. However, if it still feels soft and crumbly, put it back inside the freezer for another five minutes.
After taking the pencil out of the freezer, stick it all the way into the sharpener. However, do not use too much force because you might risk damaging the tip or the sharpener if you use too much pressure to shove the pencil inside the sharpener. The pencil should easily slide inside.
Once the pencil is inside, slowly rotate the pencil clockwise. A couple of turns should do the trick, but we would recommend not wasting the brightener core.
Only do one full rotation. Take the pencil out and check whether it is sharp enough or not. If you are not happy with the sharpness, you can keep on sharpening.
Do note that the eye brightener pencils do not need to be extremely sharp. They will be touching your skin, not paper. So, do not make the tip of the pencil extremely pointy if you do not want to get hurt.
Step 4: Start from the Corners
Now that you have sharpened the pencil adequately, it would be time to focus on using it. And first, you would need to start from the inside corners.
However, do not go all in! Instead, use a little bit in the beginning and check the results. If you think that you need more, keep on applying it on the inside corners.
Step 5: Apply below the Eyelid
Once the inside corners are okay, move along to the area that is below the eyelid. Here, you would need to be a little bit careful because if you apply too much, there will be no way of going back.
So, keep your hand in the most relaxed position, in which you can get the most control out of your movements.
Step 6: Use the Pencil Throughout the Eyelids to Get a Dramatic Look
After step number 5, your eyes should look brilliant and awakened. However, if you are looking for a dramatic look, we would recommend applying the eye brightener throughout the eyelids. Apply it in a manner that you would generally follow to apply eyeshadow.
What Can I Use Instead Of Sharpener To Sharpen Up Eye Brightener Pencil?
If you are in a pinch and do not have a sharpener available, it would be possible to sharpen the tip using a knife such as a penknife or X-acto knife.
Hold the pencil with your non-dominant hand and point it downward. Then, hold the knife perpendicular to the pencil.
Push the knife to the tip of the pencil by using the thumb of your non-dominant hand. The shavings should come off, and the tip should start getting sharpened.
Repeat the process until you are satisfied with the results. Also, it would be a good idea to disinfect the knife before attempting to sharpen the pencil with it.
